How to find the UBT gliding site

Arriving by Private Transport: - Look for the signs to the Haddenham and Thame Parkway railway station, which is on the west side of the village, just off the Thame Road.. 300 meters towards the village take the private road (20 mph limit) that leads into the Haddenham Business Park. Go through the first set of security double gates, if they are closed, use the communication box on one of the uprights to tell the security guard that you are with the Gliding Club, he should then open the gates. After about 500 meters, as the road turns sharp right, there is a cul-de-sac on the left and a set of high metal gates, leading to the old airfield perimeter track. Follow the track as far as the airstrip (Please close the gates first). If we are gliding please keep a good look out to the right for landing aircraft (give way to all landing aircraft) and cross the strip quickly, park your car with the other parked cars and report to a UBT member. Do not continue any further without obtaining permission.

Sometimes the winch is at this position. Keep well clear if a launch is in progress and stay on the perimeter track well to the side of the winch. There are two cables, so please wait until the driver is free to talk and has finished launching before approaching.

For early arrivals the reporting point is the hanger. Drive along the airstrip, keeping close to the edge and Be Aware that there may be aircraft in the process of landing and taking off. We are not the only users of the airfield. Occasionally the only access to the hanger is via the perimeter track, if this is the case then the farm field gates will be open. These are on the other side of the airstrip across the perimeter track.

Arriving by Public Transport: - The route, as above, to the hanger is over 1500 meters from the Thame Road and involves a time consuming walk, especially for late comers. Although there are no guarantees it is usually possible to find a gap through the hedge close to the hanger.
